AVA Gallery May 10 to June 8, 2024/ The Vegetative Soul

AVA Gallery, Lebanon, NH- May 10 to June 8, 2024

OPENING: FRIDAY, MAY 1O, 5–7PM

Panel Discussion: Thursday, May 16, 5:30–6:30 pm

I’ve loved making the paintings in this exhibition and I’m excited to share them with you. In the fourth century, BCE Aristotle taught that human beings have a rational, animal and vegetative soul.  The vegetative soul’s powers were nurturance and growth.

In these paintings I paint my life as if seen by a plant in the room or a tree out the window. The plant point of view is a deep, less busy and less intentional approach to things. I’m exploring both the gifts and dangers of this unconscious, still, collective, non-verbal and unthinking consciousness.
